HVAC Service Leader in Kennett Square, PA
The Historical Lineage of R&D Heating, Cooling, and Electric
At the onset of World War II, Russell Drumheller from Philadelphia PA enlisted in the Navy to serve his country. The young Seaman later joined the Seabees and being mechanically inclined he took particular interest in heating, refrigeration, and the new emerging technology for the time, air conditioning. Russell continued on with the Seabees until the end of the World War II earning distinction and living up to the “Can Do” motto. After returning home from the war Russell started his own heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration company in Philadelphia. Soon thereafter he became a member of the Philadelphia Local 420 Steamfitters Union and after years of schooling he became a Class A Steamfitter. Russell’s experience with the Seabees became a vital asset when he began working in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter and HVAC mechanic. Thereafter Russell, and his son Russell Drumheller 2nd, worked for Sun Oil running oil pipeline and he served as a member of the team that ran the oil line across the Delaware River into New Jersey. Russell Drumheller continued to work in the Naval Shipyard for another 20 years.
Russell Drumheller 2nd, also a Philadelphia Local 420 A Steamfitter, went on to start his own HVAC company in 1980, Trinity Mechanical. Russell 2nd specialized in commercial chillers, heating systems, and air conditioning systems throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey. Working in conjunction with his twin sons, Martin and Bob Drumheller, Trinity Mechanical handled HVAC services for all of the Howard Johnson’s Hotels as well as business complexes such as 10 Penn Center in Philadelphia. While working for Trinity Mechanical, Bob Drumheller went on to become a Philadelphia Local 420 B Steamfitter and handled the service for Trinity Mechanical. Martin Drumheller handled the sales and estimating for Trinity until later founding what is now R&D Heating and Cooling.
The Start of R&D Heating, Cooling, and Electric
Carrying on the family tradition, with a $4,000 loan from his father and relentless determination, “Marty” founded R&D Heating and Cooling in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, in 1986. With one truck and two employees, Marty being one of them, R&D Heating and Cooling set out to provide lite commercial services with a heavy concentration in residential HVAC new construction and residential heating and cooling services. The company of two later grew to 54 employees, 25 crews of men, and 32 trucks in service. R&D Heating and Cooling specialized in residential new construction providing HVAC installation services to some of the largest residential developers and custom home builders within the greater Philadelphia area.
